People are really upset with Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for shaking hands with Mohsin Naqvi, who is both the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The handshake that happened during the Asia Cup 2025 captains’ meeting on Tuesday has gotten a lot of attention on social media and in the Indian press. A video that went viral yesterday shows Pakistan’s captain Salman Ali Agha and Suryakumar shaking hands and saying hello at the pre-tournament function.
After the meeting, some on social media criticized the Indian captain. Some said things like, “Shaking hands with Pakistan’s Interior Minister is very rude” and “They have hurt our people, and he [Suryakumar] is shaking hands with them.”
Indian news sites also gave the event a lot of coverage, which shows how much people were upset online.
Some people who criticized Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, said that he had said bad things about India in the past, which made the condemnation more stronger.
At the press conference before the event, both Salman and Suryakumar made it clear that they would not tell their players to be less aggressive when they played against each other.
The men in blue will start their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on Wednesday at the Dubai International Stadium against the UAE. They will then play Pakistan at the same stadium on September 14.
