Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe T20I provided a balanced series story with the first game finished in a draw at Queens Sports Club, and the second game won by Bangladesh on a score-sheet of 34 runs.
Zimbabwe’s main order got off to a quick start, handing over the early control to Bangladesh, as they took a high-efficiency powerplay and middle-overs build. Openers Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan went on to build a strong 120-run stand, putting them on a competitive wicket. Both batters made the score 50, Saif’s 55 off 45 was quite stable while Tanzid did the requisite to speed up the scoring rate at the other end.
Bangladesh had finished at 186/5 in 20 overs, a score in accordance with their 20-over targets. The innings format mirrored a typical T20 template – controlled risk in the first 10 overs, and boundary maximising in the middle.
The Zimbabwean effort was disjointed in the face of pressure from the scoreboard. The hosts couldn’t form a good partnership for the successful chase despite captain Sikandar Raza’s intervention in the opening stand. The breakthrough came from Rishad Hossain who had a four-wicket spell, putting a lid on Zimbabwe’s middle order, and holding the runs tight in important Overs.
Bangladesh performed well from both the bat and the ball in the two innings – in the first, they built a defendable score and in the second, they defended a score. The draw will even the Zimbabwean score sheet from their opening game, in which they had won a 32-run match at the same venue.
The series is now tied and Sunday will be a high-leverage match-up. They will be looking more to making tactical changes, especially in the way they use the powerplay, and have it rotating through the middle of the strike.
