Brydon Carse is a part of England’s squad for the rest of the ODI series against India as the quick was called in after suffering from injuries to his wrist and elbow. The change comes as England look to bolster their pace attack following a tough start to their series.
Rising with the help of his team to the national setup at the age of 30, the youngster stayed out for several months for rehabbing. The recent three matches he made for Durham in T20 Blast were good performance checkpoints, which showed his preparedness for matches and fitness level incrementally.
Carse brings variety and versatility to England’s bowling corp as a player, as well as being a huge asset to the management of the squad. His profile – a seam bowler as an all-round player – matches England’s requirements to defend particularly in middle order when they are required to take wickets while the Indian batting order is planned and structured.
The absence of Carse earlier in the season was worsened by another set-back that meant he would not be available to play in the Indian Premier League. His hand was injured while he was training, but no specific medical details were disclosed. It was a calculated decision to recall him based on the indications of recovery rather than urgency because of the series of injuries he suffered earlier and was already a little further away from his return date.
Carse was brought into the series from the middle and England have made a change in strategy after the first ODI. India, showing control in both the bowlers and chase execution, are in the process of shifting gears for England to get more pressure and death over efficiency.
