Fakhar Zaman PSL Suspension Appeal Explained?

The case of the Fakhar Zaman PSL suspension appeal has provided a new twist to an already controversial Pakistan Super League, as the mature opener appeals against the two-match ban due to the violation of the code of conduct.

This problem is based on the fact that there was an incident in a high-pressure match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings in one of the legendary stadiums, the Gaddafi stadium. It happened during the final stages of the game, when the emotions were already high.

Officials said that on-field umpires Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Aafreedi acted after a breach was reported. It was a momentous decision. Five-run penalty was imposed on Lahore Qalandars and the final over of Karachi Kings changed with a new ball.

The case did not cease in the field. Match official Asif Yaqoob, who was also an umpire on television, and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed charged Fakhar Zaman with a Level 3 violation of the PSL Code of Conduct. This level is a sign of severe violation, which is normally associated with opposition or actions that cause the game to be disrespected.

Fakhar has however refuted the allegations. Rather than taking the penalty, he has chosen to appeal the ruling by registering a formal appeal. An full disciplinary hearing has also been requested by him and this indicates that he is confident in his position and is ready to challenge the charges using the right channels.

In a wider sense, this case points out how strictness is becoming in franchise cricket as far as the behavior of the players is concerned. The Pakistan Cricket Board has been very active in ensuring discipline in order to keep the league in check. Then there are incidences such as this that challenge that framework.
