The squad for Ireland Women’s Twenty20 World Cup has been announced in preparation for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales. The 15-member squad brings a mix of fresh talent and experienced players, signalling a balanced approach for the global tournament.
The Ireland Women Cricket Team has got some first time World Cup squad members. Ava Canning, Christina Coulter Reilly, Alana Dalzell, Aimee Maguire and Lara McBride will be making their ICC T20 World Cup debut. It is an important milestone towards Ireland’s longer-term development pathway for women’s cricket.
It will be led by Gaby Lewis who will take up the role as a captain in her maiden T20 World Cup. Lewis was a key figure in the qualification stage as he stepped up to bat with a solid performance. She ended up as the highest run-scorer of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier with 276 runs from seven matches.
Ireland’s core batting order seems to be holding up with Leah Paul, Amy Hunter and Orla Prendergast as the top order. These players will be a source of youth, consistency and experience from across the world in times of pressure.
Along with this, veteran player Laura Delany is also coming back to the squad, bringing in experience and leadership. Her arrival should assist younger players to navigate the complexities of a big ICC event.
