Is Agha Salman Pakistan’s Future All-Format Captain?

Basit Ali, a former cricketer from Pakistan, made a big assertion on Wednesday about all-rounder Salman Ali Agha. He said that Agha might soon be the new Test captain and possibly the leader of all three formats.

Earlier sources said that Pakistan is about to make big changes in its leadership, with Saud Shakeel being the most likely candidate to take over as Test captain from Shan Masood. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is thought to be making bigger changes to the structure of the team, and the 29-year-old middle-order hitter, who is now the vice-captain, is said to be one of them.

But in a stunning turn of events, Basit Ali used the social networking site X (previously Twitter) to congratulate Salman Ali Agha, who may become Pakistan’s captain in all three formats. This caught many fans off guard.

Insiders say that the PCB will make a formal announcement soon, and Saud Shakeel’s name is still being spoken about a lot. Pakistan is looking to make changes to its red-ball system, which could include changes to the Test coaching staff, so the change in leadership comes at a good time.

People have criticized Shan Masood, who was named Test captain in November 2023, for not getting regular results. Pakistan played 12 Test matches while he was in charge. They won three and lost nine.

The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 cycle has not been very good for Pakistan.

The team is presently in ninth place on the points standings after losing all of its matches against Australia, Bangladesh, and South Africa.

They only won two series, one against Sri Lanka and one against England. They also drew a two-match series against the West Indies.

It’s worth noting that Pakistan’s next Test series will take place in October 2025, when South Africa will visit the country for two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
