Following his remarkable efforts in the two-Test series against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been selected the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April 2025.
Mehidy defeated Blessing Muzarabani from Zimbabwe and Ben Sears from New Zealand to take home the esteemed prize. Only the third Bangladeshi cricketer to be named ICC Men’s Player of the Month, this represents his first-ever accolade. Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan are the two others.
After being named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month, the Bangladeshi all-rounder showed thanks for the honour.
“Having won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month is an amazing honour. The ICC Awards are the highest accolades available to any cricket player, hence getting this from a worldwide vote means a lot to me.” Mehidy Hasan said.
When he thought back on his cricketing path, he equated this success with a major turning point from the early years of his career.
“Moments like these remind me of my journey — being named Player of the Tournament in the 2016 ICC Under 19 World Cup was a massive encouragement early in my career, and this award feels just as special.” he said.
He underlined the inspirational power of the prize and then dedicated it to his followers. Against Zimbabwe, the 27-year-old was in outstanding form, hitting 116 runs over two Tests at an average of 38.66 and capturing 15 wickets at an amazing average of 11.86.
Mehidy had an instant impact in the first Test in Sylhet with successive five-wicket hauls of 5/52 in the first innings and 5/50 in the second. Notwithstanding his best efforts, Zimbabwe pulled off an exciting three-wicket victory.
Miraz, though, recovered in emphatic style in the second Test at Chattogram. Having helped remove Zimbabwe cheaply in the first innings, he anchored Bangladesh’s response with a match-defining knock of 104 off 162 balls, so turning the tide in their advantage.
Following with 5/32 in the second innings to help Bangladesh to an innings-and-106-run triumph and guarantee a 1-1 series draw, he then polished off his all-round brilliance with another five-wicket haul.
