Mohammad Amir IPL eligibility has been a topic of discussion in world cricket since rumors spread that the former Pakistan pacer obtained British citizenship. If the player eligibility and international clearance conditions allow it, this could pave the way for him to feature in other leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Amir, who was born in 1982, reportedly became a British citizen when he married Narjis Khan, and has a passport from the country. This nationality status shift has given rise to significant debates among cricket enthusiasts, particularly on social media platforms, following his resharing of posts that suggested his new eligibility to play for Afghanistan. This change in nationality status has generated considerable discussion amongst cricket fans, especially among social media users, since he reshared posts indicating his new eligibility to play for Afghanistan.
This would mean that, if confirmed under the rules of the IPL, he will be available as a foreign player as opposed to a Pakistan-registered cricketer. It’s a crucial distinction in the IPL selection rules, which often take nationality and international representation into account.
Earlier Amir had revealed his interest in playing IPL cricket in public. He has said that he’ll be open to playing in the league if he gets the chance. But he has also been adamant that he will not represent England at the international level and still feels close to Pakistan cricketers.
He is known for his match winning spells from left arm. He was an integral part of Pakistan’s World Cup victory in 2009 and helped the country win the Champions Trophy in 2017. Though he is not in the form, his experience and swing bowling ability still make him a good prospect for franchise games.
