Mohammad Rizwan has disproved the rumors of fines by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on national players after their performances at the ICC Men T20 world cup, 2026. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter had claimed that the team has not been told anything officially about punishments.
Addressing the media at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre on the last day in the current training camp of the national team in the next ODI series against Bangladesh, Rizwan responded to queries regarding the supposed fines. He emphasized that only after the PCB officially confirms the issue, it is possible to comment on it.
This is what most people have enquired of me and even players have been questioned, though nothing official came out. In case it is mentioned on the PCB that a fine of fifty lakh exists or the management has already made some penalties, then I can say something about it, Rizwan said. He also denounced news media that reported unverified claims terming it as misleading and premature.
The quote by Rizwan serves as a reminder to wait official declarations of the government before making conclusions. Cricket experts and fans have theorized that poor performances in the world cup would be the catalyst to disciplinary measures. The statements made by Rizwan however cast doubt on such statements and emphasize the need of the PCB to be clear.
The national team has now moved on to their away ODIs series with Bangladesh and the players are eager to play in the field and not to answer baseless rumors. The leadership and calculated reaction of Rizwan created a professional tone before the series.
At this point the PCB has not issued any official statement on fines or penalties.
