Nuwan Thushara IPL NOC Issue Resolved?

The situation of Nuwan Thushara NOC has taken a new twist when the Sri Lanka fast bowler made an apology to Sri Lanka Cricket, indicating that he was ready to drop the case over the non-granting of his No Objection Certificate to play at overseas leagues, including the 2026 IPL.

Thushara had previously complained when he was denied the right to take part in franchise tournaments. The move made the player and the board tense apart particularly as the prospects in international leagues were getting more significant to the contemporary cricketers.

Thushara made his stand clear in a recent email to the SLC Chief Executive Officer, Ashley de Silva, where he also forwarded the same letter to senior officials such as President, Shammi Silva. He stressed that he did not have any intention to sue or harm the reputation of the board.

Rather, the pacer clarified that his interest was the need to want justice and transparency on the issue of selection and clearance. He claimed that he was not fairly treated and that that is why he thought of taking formal measures to make his voice heard.

Thushara also ensured that whatever he did was not intended to make conflict but to have his professional interests met in a proper manner. His message is more of softening the ground to find a solution between the two parties.

The development is notable because it underscores the balancing process between national boards and franchise cricket opportunities which continue to be a theme. Players are demanding to be part of leagues such as the IPL, and boards want to safeguard international commitments. As Thushara has now indicated that it is willing to de-escalate the situation, it seems more probable that a solution can be found.
