The Asia Cup 2025 is becoming hot as the group phase nears its final days. India has already established itself in the Super Four with overwhelming victories over the UAE and Pakistan, and Oman is out of the mix after suffering consecutive losses.
Pakistan vs UAE: One Match, One Ticket
Group A has now been suspended on one standalone match on Wednesday, September 17 Pakistan against UAE. This elimination of Oman will determine which one will be moving to the next round with India. The victor stands to play the champions on September 21, and the loser retires.
Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh in Group B Puzzle
Group B is much more complicated. Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh all still alive in the race with Hong Kong knocked out. After defeats of Bangladesh and Hong Kong, Sri Lanka sit on the pole position. The result will depend on their last group match with Afghanistan on Thursday, September 18.
-
If Sri Lanka win, they qualify with Bangladesh.
-
If Afghanistan win, they qualify and Bangladesh are eliminated — unless the margin swings net run rate heavily.
-
A narrow Sri Lanka loss could still see them advance.
In Afghanistan, the choice is simple: beat Sri Lanka or go home. In Bangladesh, it is a game of waiting, which depends solely on Thursday’s outcome.
India will end the group phase on September 19 when they take on Oman in a dead rubber. The Super Four will take place between September 20 and 26 and the final of the Asia Cup will be held on September 28.
The remaining 48 hours will determine the teams that would be pursuing continental glory with India because there is only one vacancy in Group A and two in Group B.
