Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha believes his side is edging toward a “perfect playing XI” for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after a commanding seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the Rawalpindi T20I tri-series. The win, achieved with 27 balls remaining while chasing a modest 129, marked Pakistan’s fifth straight triumph in the shortest format and, crucially, one that reflected balance and control in all departments.
Agha described the performance as a “complete game,” noting that Pakistan finally executed the blueprint they have been working toward. “We were very good with both bat and ball. We started really well in all three departments,” he said, emphasizing the impact of all-rounders Mohammad Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf, whose dual skills provide tactical flexibility.
Despite missing frontline pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi due to a minor foot injury, Pakistan’s bowling unit dominated. Replacement all-rounder Mohammad Wasim Jr delivered an impressive outing, reinforcing the depth Agha has been seeking. He also highlighted the rise of Salman Mirza, who has quickly transitioned from bench option to dependable frontline bowler.
Agha admitted that selection is now becoming a “good problem,” as multiple players compete strongly for spots. “We always look for bench strength, and now we have bowlers who can put up these performances. It’s tough making a playing XI,” he said.
The chase was spearheaded by opener Sahibzada Farhan, whose electrifying unbeaten 80 off 45 balls showcased his ability to seize momentum early. Agha praised the opener’s match-shaping intent, saying, “If he bats for three or four overs, he can take the game away from any opposition.”
