The Pakistan-India World Cup rivalry will take centre stage on October 10 in Johannesburg after the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the complete schedule for the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup, co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The 14-team competition will kick off on October 2 with the three-team Super Series between the teams from the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The teams are set to compete in a round robin match at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on 2nd, 4th and 6th of October.
The first two in the Super Series will advance to the main tournament along with 10 direct qualifiers to form a 12-team second round tournament.
Pakistan and India are grouped with defending champion Australia, Qualifier A and co-host Zimbabwe in Group A while Bangladesh, England, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Qualifier B are in Group B.
The main round starts October 7 in Cape Town with Australia playing against India in a second World Cup final. Pakistan will be taking on Afghanistan on October 10 in Johannesburg before India, a day after they start their campaign. The matchup is sure to be one of the game’s biggest group-stage duels.
The Green Shirts will then face Qualifier A on October 15 and wrap up their Group campaign against Zimbabwe on October 19 and Australia on October 22. Following the second round, the top three in each group will advance to the Super Seven bracket, along with top remaining team from both groups.
This 2027 World Cup will eventually bring together 14 teams spread out in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia with the tournament to be played out after the Super Seven and knockout stages.
