There were 879 registered players in the auction, both local and foreign. These have been categorized into five groups namely Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, and Emerging. It was very competitive among teams as they struggled to acquire the best talent. The greatest source was the new franchise Sialkot Stallionz who had signed the Australian batting giant Steve Smith at a record Rs14 crore. With his experience and calm demeanor even during high pressure, Sialkot has an immediate title claim, with Smith present.
Bold moves were also done by Lahore Qalandars. They directly signed left arm pacer of Bangladesh Mustafizur Rahman at Rs6.44 crore. Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi was retained at Rs7crore and explosive opener Fakhar Zaman was retained at Rs7.95crore. Harish Rauf, the express pacer was re-signed at Rs7.6 crore. Such young talents as Ubaid Shah and Mohammad Farooq and leg-spinner Usama Mir provide Lahore with a balanced team in terms of batting, bowling and fielding.
Islamabad United emphasized on a rounded power. They also signed a wicketkeeper-batter of New Zealand, Devon Conway, at a cost of Rs6.3crore and a captain, Shadab Khan, at Rs7crore. Their best purchase was Fahheem Ashraf, the Pakistani all-rounder who was bought at a price of Rs8.5 crore. Other additions of Mark Chapman and Max Bryant will enhance their middle-order selections.
