Rashid Latif, the former captain of Pakistan, has attacked the Indian cricket team harshly following the scandalous decision to refuse to hand over the trophy of the Asia Cup 2025 to the ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
India won by five wickets in a nail-biting final, yet the celebration after the match was not so sweet when the team refused to take the winners medals and trophy in the final ceremony. Latif criticized the move to X by labeling the act as an ugly day in the history of cricket and that the ruling defied the spirit of the gentleman game and needed to be answered.
He also alleged that such disobedience would result in an automatic suspension in any other sport. Yet, he questioned why disciplinary action should be taken against him because of the overwhelming influence of India in the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The award delay exceeded an hour, with individual awards given to Indian players such as Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav. But presenter Simon Doull revealed that the event would be called to a close without the team being crowned with the trophy.
The boycott has sparked a controversial discussion in the cricketing fraternity, with many people referring to it as a political gesture masqueraded as a sporting move.
