Rishabh Pant Injured in Fourth England Test

The touring Indian team may have taken a hit when their wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant got hurt badly enough to have to leave the pitch during the first day of their fourth Test against England at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

During India’s first innings, in the 68th over, Pant hurt his foot and was replaced by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The score was 212/3 at the time. The event took place on the fourth ball of the over in question. Pant tried to hit a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes but only got a thick inside edge, which sent the ball to his front foot.

The 27-year-old seemed like he was in a lot of agony right after the blow and pointed to the dressing room for help.

The physiotherapists on the pitch treated him, but the referees asked to finish the treatment off the pitch since it needed more time. This meant that Pant had to leave the game.

Even though he got some quick help from the physio on the field, Rishabh Pant couldn’t walk off the field with their help, so he had to be transported off the field in a buggy. The left-handed batter hit two fours and a six to get 37 runs off of 48 balls.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Playing Conditions say that Rishabh Pant can bat again if he gets better from his injury.

“A batter can leave the game at any time during his innings when the ball is dead.” According to section 25.4 of the ICC Playing Conditions, the umpires must be told why a batsman has to leave the game before play can continue.

“If a batter has to leave the game because of illness, injury, or any other unavoidable reason, that batter has the right to continue his innings.”
