Senuran Muthusamy, the left-arm spinner of South Africa, is the ICC Men’s Player of the Month of October 2025, and the award was a reward of his brilliant performance in the Test series against Pakistan. Muthusamy emerged as the winner in a contest against other nominees, including Noman Ali (Pakistan) and Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), after an impressive all-around performance.
The 31-year-old contributed to the two-match Test series in Pakistan against South Africa, where he accumulated 106 runs at 53 and 11 wickets at 18.36. Not only did his contributions lead South Africa to a series draw, but they also made him win the Player of the Series award.
Trying to look at the success, Muthusamy told, “It is amazing that I was named the Player of the Month at the ICC, the performance that every player wants to perform great in the Test form of cricket. He further noted that the fact that he was playing to the current World Test Championship champions made the recognition even more valuable.
However, in the first Test, though narrowly defeated, Muthusamy achieved his best bowling figures of 11/174, demonstrating his ability to dismantle Pakistan’s batting order. In the second, his unbeaten 89-run innings, whose lower-order alliances with Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada proved key, played a key role in reversing the situation.
His maturity as an all-rounder was also brought into the limelight of the performance, and his position as one of the most reliable Test players in South Africa was strengthened. ICC praised his consistency, hence mentioning that his work was a sign of the strength and stability that contemporary Test cricket required.
As South Africa are now ranked fourth in the ICC World Test Championship table, the success of Muthusamy can be considered as a symbol of the team returning to red-ball cricket and achieving success, which, at the same time, makes him one of the keystones of their further actions in the games.
