Indian batter Shreyas Iyer said he was ‘frustrated’ after being left out of India’s 15-man Asia Cup 2025 team, stating his recent performances deserved a spot. Iyer told a local Indian podcast that he struggled to digest the loss but quickly focused on the broader picture.
“It’s only frustrating when you deserve to be in the playing XI. He stated it’s frustrating then.
“But you support someone who plays consistently for the team. Winning is the aim, and everyone is delighted.”
Despite the loss, the right-hander pledged to work harder off the pitch and improve his skills to make him unmistakable.
“If you don’t have a chance, work ethically. Not only when someone is watching must you perform. If you prepare well, your performance on the pitch will mirror your off-field actions’ Iyer said.
He said consistent preparation will yield results. If you prepare well and don’t perform in the first two games, you’ll likely perform in the third. He said, “I’ve done this.
The 15th men’s Asia Cup will be played in T20I format with eight teams—Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Oman, UAE, and Hong Kong—divided into two groups.
India is in Group A with Oman, Pakistan, and UAE. They play UAE in Dubai on September 10, Pakistan in Dubai on September 14, and Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 19.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka comprise Group B. The top two teams from each group advance to the Super Four, where they will compete in the final on September 28.
