Why did Mehidy withdraw from the Bangladesh T20I squad?

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, an all-rounder from Bangladesh, has pulled out of the three-match T20I series against the Netherlands that was supposed to go before the Asia Cup 2025 next month.

On Tuesday, officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said that Hasan chose not to play in the series to be with his sick wife.

A BCB spokesperson said, “Mehidy has taken time off from August 20 to September 4 to help his wife while she is sick.” “Because of this, he won’t be going to the skill camp in Sylhet before the series against the Netherlands.”

The 28-year-old had gone to a fitness camp in Dhaka, Bangladesh, to get ready for both the Netherlands series and the Asia Cup, which will be hosted in the UAE starting September 9.

Mehidy last played in Bangladesh’s T20I series at home against Pakistan. The Bangladesh team headed to Sylhet on Tuesday night to set up their training camp. The Netherlands squad is coming on August 26 and will train for three days before the series starts.

The Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will host all three matches of the T20I series. The first match will be on August 30, while the second and third matches will be on September 1 and 3.

The Asia Cup 2025 will start on September 9 with a match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong. In their first game of the competition, the Bengal Tigers will play Hong Kong.
