The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Wednesday that their T20I tri-series against Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which will be held in Sharjah from August 29 to September 7, will have a 17-member team.
Rashid Khan, a star all-around bowler, will head the Afghanistan team in the series. It is a dress rehearsal for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025, which starts on September 9. The only alteration to Afghanistan’s tri-series team from their Asia Cup squad is that up-and-coming pacer Abdullah Ahmadzai has replaced Naveen ul Haq.
Ahmadzai will be part of the Atalans’ pace attack along with Fazalhaq Farooqi, Farid Malik, and Karim Janat. Afghanistan’s spin attack will be led by skipper Rashid and include veterans Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, and AM Ghazanfar.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, who are at the top of the order, make up the batting unit alongside Darwish Rasooli, Mohammad Ishaq, and Sediqullah Atal. Afghanistan will start their T20I tri-series on Friday against Pakistan, and then they will play the UAE on September 1.
