PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is now in the spotlight as he has been invited to two big cricket events that are to take place later this month in Ahmedabad. According to reports, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will be present for the Board meeting at the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final.
The ICC is hosting a number of key meetings which will impact the future of the World Test Championship. The talks will start with a virtual Chief Executives Committee (CEC) meeting on May 21. This will be followed by ICC Board meeting in Ahmedabad on May 30 and 31.
The IPL 2026 final also happens to be in the same city and same time window as the Narendra Modi Stadium is also hosting the IPL 2026 final on May 31. This has added to the importance of the visit of International Cricket officials.
Normally, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi would be expected to be in attendance in person at such an important ICC Board meeting, reports suggest. But doubts remain as a result of the continuing friction in the cricketing relationship in the region. This may have an impact on his attendance (whether physical or other).
The meetings are likely to be dominated by the next generation of the World Test Championship. Possible expansion to 12 teams and one-off Test matches will be factored into the points system are key areas being discussed. These can potentially change the look and nature of Test cricket, and how it is played and watched around the world.
Representation at ICC level is always important for Pakistan cricket particularly during discussions that can affect the lower and middle level cricket countries. Naqvi’s decision will thus be closely monitored by the cricket boards and fans.
