Will Pakistan’s Cricketers Miss BBL After PCB’s NOC Suspension?

Cricket Australia (CA) have been optimistic that Pakistani players will continue to play in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025 despite the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suspending all overseas No-Objection Certificates (NOCs).

On Thursday, CA CEO Todd Greenberg affirmed that the association is still negotiating with PCB and that they want Pakistan’s best players in the tournament. The suspension, declared on September 29, came soon after Pakistan lost narrowly to India in the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai, and there was speculation about the timing.

The PCB has not indicated why it has blanket suspended NOCs, and there is uncertainty about whether exemptions will be offered or the decision will last longer. This action directly affects stars such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, all of whom were to play major roles in the BBL 2025-26.

According to Greenberg, their addition would greatly enhance the quality of the league and its worldwide audience. I have been communicating with our people at the PCB for the past few days. We will see a resolution, I think, he said. We are all excited to bring our players to the Big Bash. We believe they will be of great value to us. It will be an enjoyable summer.

A 2025 season of the BBL will start on December 14 with 44 matches to be played in Australia and the final on January 25, 2026. The lack of certainty of Pakistan will remain a discussion point among the fans and hosts as the event approaches.

The ball is currently in the PCB’s court, and the cricket world is waiting to know whether some of Pakistan’s biggest names will be given a chance to display their talent in one of the most popular T20 tournaments in the world.
