Zimbabwe Test team Bangladesh has been a massive shuffle for Zimbabwe Cricket, with the squad being reduced to 15 players for the upcoming one-off Test against Bangladesh at Harare Sports Complex from June 28 to July 2.
The fixture is the follow-up to Zimbabwe’s impressive campaign against Afghanistan last year in the same ground, which marked their return to Test cricket. The team, however, shows that there are significant shifts in the composition of the squad, especially in terms of senior player availability, and in how the team is put together.
The prominent one is experienced all-rounder Sikandar Raza. He has since received permission from Zimbabwe Cricket to continue his county duties with Worcestershire in England in the Vitality Blast 2026. He’s a big hole in terms of batters’ depth as well as his overall balance.
Zimbabwe have also made five changes to the squad which had lifted them up the previous time in the Test match against Bangladesh. The ones who didn’t make the cut are Tanunurwa Makoni, Nick Welch, Antum Naqvi, Tinotenda Maposa and Wellington Masakadza.
A new set up for the games suggests a performance adjustment along with a long-term rotation plan. Zimbabwe Cricket, however, has decided to bring in new faces and re-weight the squad for the local soil of Harare, which can play a role in the selection of players.
The Test also has great significance for Zimbabwe as they look to stabilise their fortunes in the longer format following their poor performances in recent years. Leadership and tactical execution will be important as there are no big match-winners at hand.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, enter Harare with a competitive pedigree against Zimbabwe, and could prove to be a hard combat. The match is anticipated to assess Zimbabwe’s depth, especially in the middle order and spin-bowing department.
